Subchapter 5c
Toothache. Weak and decaying teeth are first to be punctured by a dead tooth. Then the root of the tall plant teo-nochtli is to be ground up and burned with deer’s horn; these precious stones iztac-quetzaliztli, chichiltic tapachtli and a little poorly ground farina should be heated with salt; all these wrapped in a cloth are to be compressed on the teeth for a while, especially on those where the injury or trouble with the pain is felt severely. Finally white frankincense and the kind of ointment we call xochi-ocotzotl are burnt over the coals, with the odor whereof a coarse pad of cotton is impregnated, and then is kept moving frequently between the cheeks, so as best to reach the pain spot.

Dolor de muelas. Los dientes débiles y en descomposición deben ser perforados primero por un diente muerto. For bloody saliva. For one spitting blood it is well to drink a potion made out of the root of the tlaco-xilo-xochitl, our pepper, the stones teo-xihuitl and chichiltic tapachtli, the bones of an ape, the red flinty stones you find on the bank of a river, white frankincense, the leaves of the huitz-colotli and the root of other plants whose tip is ruddy and small, crushing them in the whites of two eggs. Further to prepare the potion you should crush one root of the tlaco-xilo-xochitl, the leaves of the huitz-colo-xochitl and the root of another plant called xiuhtontli, the stone teo-xihuitl and the bone of an ape, burn pepper to ashes, crush together the chichiltic tapachtli and a stone found in the river, that is, in water; cook the bone in water with white frankincense, and then before a meal let him take one saucer of the potion thus prepared, for his drink. For one who spits out yellow mucus, take the malinalli plant, pine cypress and leaves of the plant eca-patli, squeezed in water or liquor containing ashes, or if it seems right in sour water; let the above be ground and cooked for a potion he is to drink; it is however to be diligently studied. This consumes the noxious humor.

Para la saliva con sangre. A quien escupe sangre le conviene beber una poción hecha con la raíz del tlaco-xilo-xochitl, nuestro pimiento, las piedras teo-xihuitl y chichiltic tapachtli, los huesos de un mono, las piedras rojas de pedernal que se encuentran en la orilla de un río, incienso blanco, las hojas del huitz-colotli y la raíz de otras plantas cuya punta es rojiza y pequeña, triturando todo con las claras de dos huevos. Para preparar mejor la poción se debe triturar una raíz del tlaco-xilo-xochitl, las hojas del huitz-colo-xochitl y la raíz de otra planta llamada xiuhtontli, la piedra teo-xihuitl y el hueso de un mono; se quema el pimiento hasta reducirlo a cenizas, se trituran juntos el chichiltic tapachtli y una piedra hallada en el río, es decir, en el agua; se cuece el hueso en agua con incienso blanco, y luego, antes de comer, debe tomarse un platillo de la poción así preparada. Para quien escupe moco amarillo, se toma la planta malinalli, el ciprés y las hojas de la planta eca-patli, exprimidas en agua o licor que contenga cenizas, o si parece adecuado, en agua agria; se debe moler y cocer lo anterior para una poción que ha de beber; sin embargo, debe estudiarse con diligencia. Esto consume el humor nocivo.
Subchapter 7c
For pain at the heart. For him whose heart pains him or burns, take the plant nonochton that grows near an ants’ nest, gold, electrum, teo-xihuitl, chichiltic tapachtli and tetlahuitl, with the burned heart of a deer, and grind them up together in water; let him drink the liquor.

Para dolor en el corazón. Aquel cuyo corazón le duele o arde, debe tomar la planta nonochton que crece cerca de un hormiguero, oro, electro, teo-xihuitl, chichiltic tapachtli y tetlahuitl, junto con el corazón quemado de un venado, todo triturado en agua; que beba el licor.
